Team Agents of Change [NAME OF THE STUDY]
A certain non-government organization (NGO) in the Philippines provides programs for its partner communities with the help of its corporate sponsors. Now, with the power of data; Lorielle Malveda, Niña Uson, Mika Pelagio, Ella Guinanas, and Patricia Obillo of Team Agents of Change analyzed how this NGO can improve their programs to increase their volunteer engagement. The team deployed a dashboard and provided tools that will help them make data-driven decisions in the future.
Team Analytics Agents
AI (Aegis Insurance) Company, an established and leading insurance provider in the Philippines, aims to determine the key factors that contribute to the early success in sales of their new agents through a data-driven approach. Early success in sales means selling at least 1 insurance policy within their first year of employment. Team Analytics Agents, composed of Kyle Anisco, Marjorie Edep, Princess Shaira Abo-Abo, and SJ dela Cruz, utilized classification models and were able to pinpoint the key drivers behind the agent's early sales success. Additionally, clustering techniques were employed to segment agents according to the most influential factors in order to help the company at enhancing the retention of their top-performing agents while providing support to those who require it.
Team Eagle
One of the major advocacies of Insular Life Foundation is the Gold Eagle Scholarship program, which aims to expand the reach of educational intervention to deserving students in the country through financial assistance. Through the years, the foundation saw that a number of scholars were not able to retain the scholarship grant until graduation. Thus, the need for the improvement of scholar selection. Team Eagle, composed of Paola Afalla, Glaiza Lipato, Jen Salvatierra, and Michelle Vigilia, explored the scholars’ application details and used different classification algorithms to determine what a potentially successful scholar looks like
Team Kurtosisters
Icare, one of the leading healthcare providers in the Philippines, has noticed an uptick in the number of procedures for each claim over the years – an indication that there may be unnecessary procedures involved. To investigate this matter, Team Kurtosisters, composed of Alecx Gatchalian, Danielle Galian, Diwa Tiu, Jhordya Soriano, and Saberina Saberon, partnered with the company to design dashboards that aim to identify fraudulent transactions. The team has developed and deployed an anomaly detection model that leverages market basket analysis to provide a baseline of which sets of diagnoses and procedures are legitimate. With the provided data-driven solution, Icare can easily validate the list of diagnoses and procedures performed and save costs from any claims related to fraud/abuse.
IDENTIFYING THE PERSONAS OF PREPAID HEALTH CARD PURCHASERS
Spending on healthcare has always been a burden to the common Filipino. According to a study by Ateneo de Manila University Development Studies Program, the healthcare financing of ordinary Filipinos can be summed up in 4Ps - pagtitiis, pangungutang, pagmamakaawa, and PhilHealth. In order to provide a more affordable alternative for medical coverage, Insular Health Care started to offer prepaid health cards in 2019.
Through analytics, team Leading Ladies composed of Emily Latoja, Pamela Grace Toledo, Pamela Mildred Rosales, and Naomi Grace Casuga, sought to find out who the previous purchasers are of these prepaid health cards so that the company can reach out and provide healthcare coverage to more Filipinos.
Team Powerhouse
Electra Power Co. has started deploying smart meters in the country with a target to convert half of the existing conventional meters in the coming years. With the near real-time energy usage report from smart meters, consumers and power utility companies alike can monitor electricity consumption as granular as on a 15-minute interval.
Team Powerhouse, composed of Patricia Amos, Thea Costales, J Maala and Carmella Papa, analyzed electricity consumption of selected households on smart meters to understand their consumption behaviors. Insights from the initial analysis were then utilized to build a behavioral segmentation model to help Electra Power Co. forecast electricity demand and customize power supply management per consumer group.
Team Unbeatable Aces
A healthy beverage corporation aims to provide affordable and accessible nutrition through their products. They currently use an assessment tool that helps them locate potential areas where they can expand their reach. However, this tool does not consider their mission in helping address malnutrition. The team, Unbeatable Aces composed of Thalassa Benzon, Mica Cawili, Karina Gerasmio, Cheska Ilarde and Jeda Lamadrid, enhanced the company’s tool by updating data sources and including other factors that affect beverage consumption. Examples of these factors are income and subsistence incidence as proxy to malnutrition incidence. Location clusters were also introduced to better classify and target locations based on consumer characteristics.
